I had never been to California until I met Jeremy. Then, after 3 months of dating and an engagement (yes, we got engaged quickly and yes, I will tell you that story soon) we made the trip to California so I could meet his parents. His parents AND his grandmother, uncle and aunt visiting from Minnesota and his brother and his girlfriend visiting from Arizona. Since his grandma was in one guest bedroom and his uncle and aunt in the other, his parents got a hotel room for Jeremy, Randy, Christina and me. Never meeting people and staying in the same room with them should be nerve wracking, but it wasn't at all. We all got along so well. On our first night, I won his brother over by suggesting that we drink before going out drinking.
We spent most of the time here with his whole family, but one day just the four of us kids (as Jeremy's mom calls us) headed to San Francisco for the day. It was a super fun day! At one point during the day, we were walking along (I'm not sure what street we were on) and as we started walking across the street we saw a guy on a bicycle flying toward a little old Asian lady that was coming out of Trader Joe's. This long, gray haired guy with a peace sign earring rode right into the ladies little basket she was pushing and her groceries spilled out everywhere!!! He just kept on going, didn't even stop to look back at her. So she starts screaming, "You no do that! You come back here now!" over and over. After he made it a little way down the road, he suddenly turned around and started coming back toward the lady. We thought he had realized what he had done and was coming back to help, but NO he just kept on flying right by her again in the direction he had first came from. She continued screaming at him as he rode by again and he just put his hands up like "what?". We were all shocked and couldn't believe what had just happened. We kept wondering if we were being filmed for an episode of Candid Camera or What Would You Do. I felt and still feel sorry for the lady, but we all can't help but still say, "You no do that! You come back here now!".
Good thing she had groceries to tend too. She would have whipped out a little karate kid action and some numbchucks and kicked his ass.
ReplyDeleteI have a special place in my heart for little Asian ladies. I think they're the cutest things ever!!! My friends mom is Asian and I just love her to death : ) Funny story!

Jestina's mom likes to tell people "yes" and "thank you" in situations where those are not appropriate replies. Ex. How was your flight? Yes.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to California. Hilarious! And nope...you'll never forget that. I love all these flashback stories you're sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love stories tied to memories! I'm gonna start telling Rhett that. You no do that! Classic :D
