Doggie Vacation

Happy Friday!!!

Brian and I are leaving early tomorrow morning to go to Atlanta. Brian has work meetings there, so I figured I would go along for the ride. More on that next week, this is about Peanut's vacation.

Anyway, I had been stressing out trying to decide what we were going to do with Peanut. He's a little spoiled and has never been boarded. He usually stays with family or friends when we go out of town. I just can't imagine dropping him off somewhere not knowing if he's going to get much affection and playtime and possibly be in a crate most of the time. This dog has been like my child since I got him 5 years ago, I just couldn't do that to the little guy. Since we didn't really have anywhere else to take him, I reluctantly started looking at boarding places. All of the boarding places that I thought seemed decent were ridiculously expensive. I was getting really upset about the whole boarding thing when I came across a website called DogVacay. You put in your location and the dates you will be leaving your dog and it pulls up a list of dog sitters that will watch your dog in their home during that time. I was a little skeptic of this at first, but the more I thought about it I liked this idea WAY better than boarding. The sitters talk a little about themselves and how your dog will be spending its time there. I searched through quite a few listings and finally found someone who got glowing reviews, was available this weekend and only takes dogs under 25 pounds. We emailed back and forth a few times and I finally felt comfortable enough to go ahead and make the reservation. We drop Peanut off this evening and drop him off Tuesday evening. His sitter has a dog of her own and will be watching two other dogs, so it will be a little puppy party for Peanut. I'm so nervous leaving him with someone I don't know, but I am confident that he will be in good hands.

His sitter asked for a list of some things about Peanut and this is what I made to give to her.

Peanut

Chocolate Miniature Dachshund
5 years old
Mommy: Lindsay
Daddy: Brian
Brother: Chance (Schipperke mix)
Food: ¼ cup twice per day
Potty breaks: Morning, late afternoon and before bed

1.)   Peanut LOVES to cuddle. He’s definitely a lap dog and is happiest curled up right beside you under a blanket.
2.)   He is very affectionate and LOVES giving kisses!
3.)    His favorite game is fetch. He will chase the ball as long as you keep throwing it to him.
4.)   He might be a little guy, but he will make it his mission to get the squeaker out of a toy in 15 minutes or less.
5.)   He’s very friendly and loves playing with other dogs.
6.)   He is a little explorer. He loves to sniff and mark every tree, flower, piece of grass, etc that you come across.
7.)   He loves mommy and daddy and will probably sit at the door for a little while waiting for them to come back.
8.)   He likes to work on his tan in the morning. He will find any little sliver of sunlight he can to lay in.
9.)   He is protective and gives a little growl and barks when he hears doors open, knocking, doorbells, etc. We tell him “no barking”, so feel free to let him know it’s not ok to bark.
10.) He loves treats and can sit up and roll over if he knows a treat is coming his way. He’s not too good with “sit” though.
11.) One of his favorite things is having his head scratched.

This is our first time ever leaving Peanut with someone we don’t know, but we know he’s going to have a great time with you and the rest of the pups. Thank you so much for opening up your home and taking the time to care for him. We are confident that he will be in good hands and might not even want to come home when we pick him up. Thanks again for letting Peanut join the puppy party!!! We will be back to Tuesday evening to pick him up from his vacation.

Happy weekend!!! I'll be back next week with a full recap of our (and Peanut's) mini-vacay!

Vegas Day 4

Saturday March 31 was our last full day in Vegas. We went to the Flamingo to enjoy our last buffet on the 24 hour buffet pass we had. The buffet had a whole room full of desserts, including cotton candy! I felt like I was 5 years old again, I was so excited for that cotton candy! After lunch, we walked around the Strip for awhile and then went back to our hotel to lounge at the pool. For dinner, we went to RA Sushi Bar and ate WAY too much sushi and had a couple of yummy fish bowl drinks. I was very proud of Jeremy, he actually tried seared tuna! He hates seafood, which really sucks for me since I could pretty much live on it! After dinner, we went back to our hotel and got ready to go to PURE nightclub at Casear's Palace. Dev was there promoting her new album and even put on a free concert. Christina and I had a blast seeing as we got free vodka drinks until midnight! The boys were a little tired and knew that we had to get up early and make the long drive home the next day, so they decided to go back to the hotel. Christina and I weren't ready for our fun time in Vegas to end, so we decided to walk around and see where the night took us. We ended up meeting a lot of really cool people and stopped at many different hotels for a drink. We were having so much fun, we didn't even realize it was almost 5 AM. The whole vacation was a blast, but I think Christina and I's adventurous late night trip is something I will never forget!

Mmmm.... Cotton Candy!!!
 Love my Lil C!!!
This drink was DELICIOUS!!!
Yummy sushi! Sadly, this wasn't even half of our food
Waiting in line to get into PURE

I think it's safe to say I had the best 30th birthday party ever!!! Whatever 30 has to bring, I am ready for it! 30 is the new 20 right?!?

Vegas Day 3

After staying out dancing until 3 AM, I was surprised that all four of us were dressed and ready to go to lunch at 11:00 AM. Randy, Christina, Jeremy and I shared a room and four people trying to get ready in one small hotel room can be pretty time consuming. We decided to go to Paris and do the 24 hour buffet for $45. You can't beat your choice of 4 buffets for 24 hours for $45! While we were eating lunch, Jeremy got a text saying that Little Big Town (my favorite band) was signing autographs at Serendipity 3. So, we headed over there as soon as we got done eating. Unfortunately, we were too late for the signing. But... I did get a picture with Phillip and I got to talk to Kim. Luckily, I already have a ticket and a t-shirt with their signatures. I've seen them in concert 5 times, I think you could say I'm a little obsessed with them.

That afternoon, we put on our bathing suits, made some drinks and headed for the pool. Before we even walked in, the lifeguard told us we couldn't bring any outside food or drinks in. Since the pool was closing in an hour anyway, we just decided to go back to our hotel room and get ready to go out that evening. Christina and I weren't too happy with our outfits for the evening, so we decided to head to Miracle Mile and do a little shopping at H&M. We both found shirts we were happy with and changed into them while we were there. We hit up another buffet for dinner and then stopped for Irish Car Bombs on the way back to the hotel. We stayed in that night and just relaxed in our hotel room. All in all, it was a very good day!

Vegas Day 2

We got up pretty early and went for breakfast at Harrah's buffet with Brandy & Heath. After breakfast, we walked around the Venetian and Fashion Show mall. We decided to stop for an afternoon drink (ok, it was really only noon, but it's vacation right?!?) at StripBurger. Then we met up with Jorge, Lacey and Eric to do a little more walking around. Around 3:30 PM, Randy & Christina (brother-in-law and sister-in-law) text us to let us know they were almost there, so Jeremy and I headed back to our hotel to meet them. While we were waiting, we decided to play a little blackjack (the only gambling we did) and I won $15! You would've thought I won $1,000. I was so excited! Randy and Christina got there and then the party really started! The four of us have so much fun together! Jeremy and Randy are brothers and best friends. And I just have to say, I have the best sister-in-law in the world! We had Chipotle for dinner and then went to Rockhouse where ladies drink free until 12:00 AM on Thursdays! After Rockhouse, we went to Carnaval court and danced the night away!!! BEST BIRTHDAY PARTY EVER!!!

Vegas Day 1

Last Wednesday... March 28th... My 30th birthday!!! We packed up the car and headed to Las Vegas. We met our friends Jorge, Lacey and Eric at a gas station at 5:30 AM and started the 9 hour drive. The drive was pretty long and uneventful, but so worth it once we got there. After getting to our hotel and checking in, our friends Brandy & Heath, who flew in from Georgia, came to our hotel to get the party started. Heath is a big beer freak, so we decided to go to Sin City Brewery at the Flamingo. Jorge, Lacey and Eric met us there and we split a couple pitchers. As we were sitting there drinking, a couple girls came up and invited us to a Jim Beam party at the pool outside with free drinks and appetizers. It was a BLAST!!! One of the best parts of the whole trip. After that, we still hadn't had dinner, so we decided to go to Margaritaville. Brandy and I split the lobster and crab mac & cheese. It was oh-so delicious! Since our brother-in-law and sister-in-law were coming in the next day, we decided to head to bed at a decent time to rest up for the real party on Thursday. Day 1 of Vegas was definitely a success! Stay tuned for days 2, 3 and 4!!!

Age is a number and mine is unlisted

A couple of weekends ago we packed up the car and made the long 12 hour drive to Arizona to surprise Randy (Jeremy's brother) for his 30th birthday. We got to Randy and Christina's house around 7 am on Friday morning and boy was Randy surprised. Apparently, he looked out the peep hole and saw me wearing a hat and told Christina that a little boy was at the door. Maybe I shouldn't wear hats anymore. :) Friday, we had a great day hanging out by the pool and going to eat at Old Chicago. Saturday, Christina had another surprise in store for Randy, a surprise birthday party. The boys left the house to do "boy" stuff and us girls decorated and got ready for the party. About 15 of Randy's friends came while the boys were gone and we all hid and jumped out and yelled surprise when they got home. The party was a huge success, we all had a great time hanging out by the pool and eating BBQ. Sunday, the four of us (otherwise known as our wolf pack) got up and went to breakfast and then went to the store to get stuff to grill for the evening. Guess what we did for the rest of the day??? Yep, hung out by the pool like we did all weekend. That's pretty much all you want to do in Arizona, or be in the AC. Randy grilled yummy steaks for dinner and then we decided that it was time to play Rockband because that's just what our wolf pack does (we're rockstars). Monday morning, we got up and started out on the long 12 hour drive home. It was such a great mini-vacation and we already miss them so much!!!
