New Years Resolution - Gluten Free

Every year, I make a NY resolution and every year I do not stick with it! My resolution usually has something to do with losing weight and working out. To be honest, I can't really say I don't stick with it, because I usually never even really start it.

After my mom was here visiting last September, I looked back at pictures and realized I really needed to lose some weight to feel better about myself. I slowly started dieting and slowly started losing weight. I was in a wedding the beginning of November and when I saw those pictures mid November, I knew that I really needed to kick it up a notch. At the beginning of December, I started working out EVERY day! I alternated between Zumba and Pilates. I'm proud to say that I've lost close to 20 pounds since September. I am now just a few pounds from my goal weight (although my goal weight has changed a few times).

So.... part of my NY resolution is to continue working out and eating healthier.

However, my main resolution is no red meat for at least a month and to start and continue a gluten free diet. I'm happy to say that I've stuck to both of these for 9 days now. I really didn't eat red meat very often unless I was out at a restaurant and had a good burger or steak, so this one isn't too hard to stick to. Gluten free.... has not been as easy. There is gluten in so many things that we don't even realize.

You might be wondering why I even decided to go gluten free. Well, there are a few reasons... But the main reason is; most of our bodies can't break down gluten, we just don't realize it. That being said, I've had some really bad stomach issues for awhile. My stomach feels like it is at war with itself. Every night when I go to bed, it sounds like there are monsters in my stomach trying to kill each other. I've told a few people about my stomach issues and most of them have said it sounds like it could be a gluten intolerance. So... I decided to bite the bullet and go gluten free. This is my 10th day and I must say my stomach is feeling A LOT better!!!

I am hoping that 2013 is finally the year that I will succeed in sticking to my resolution! Wish me luck!!!

Also, if any of you are gluten free and have some good recipes or know of another blogger that has some recipes, please send them my way. Thanks!

  2. Lovin it! I'm kind of starting my healthy journey now because well, I'm getting married in 9 months. I had stomach issues and tried gluten free for about 2 months a year back. It turns out gluten wasn't the cause of my stomach issues but I enjoyed the experience anyways. Now Dave and I have been eating paleo for about 3 weeks and it's basically cutting out grains, sugars and dairy. Basically we are trying to cut out processed crap. We use evoo, avocado and other things to get in healthy fats. I use honey to sweeten and so on. We juice to help get our greens in and it's been an eye opening experience. I'll rack my brain to think of some of my favorite gluten free things. Well done, girl. The beginning of making that change is the hardest part (I'm in the middle, so I feel ya!)

  6. Every picture I see of you...makes me think you are stunning & gorgeous. But we definitely all have something we want to change anyways. I have celiac disease and let me tell you...it's so so expensive for the ingredients in grocery stores, and I can't do it. It's almost worth it for me to eat certain things. If you eat a ton of gluten, yes, it could be bad. But we still need it in our systems. That being said, here is a site of recipes:

And here is a little reminder list while starting out what is okay to eat: http://pinterest.com/pin/267753140315613018/

Sorry for the novel. But holler at me if you have any questions :)

  8. Good on you for committing to gluten-free! There are lots of Paleo blogs out there that have hundreds of gluten-free recipes. I especially like Eat Drink Paleo (http://eatdrinkpaleo.com.au/) and I made these gluten-free brownies over Christmas (http://www.paleobrownies.com/) and they were incredible! Good luck!

  10. My Hubsy has a lot of stomach issues, maybe I should consider doing gluten-free too for us? Glad I read this, I may look into more now. I thought it was mostly for those with Celiac Disease.

Congrats on being healthy and losing 20 pounds! I'm just into my second week or working out 5-6 times a week. I've only lost 2lbs but feel great about using my body to do what it was meant to do!
